What draws London-based actress and singer Fiona-Jane to audiobook narration is her love of stories of people fighting against the restrictions and prejudices of their time, and triumphing against the odds.
An enthusiastic reader and narrator of non-fiction books on History, especially British Heritage, Royalty and Aristocracy, Women’s History and Women’s Empowerment, her favourite fictional genres are Historical Fiction, Cosy Mysteries, Romance and Legal Drama.
Her natural accent is RP, with a voice that is warm and engaging, and yet also sharp, witty and authoritative. Think Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey! She also spent part of her childhood in England’s North East with her mother’s family speaking in a Geordie accent, and several years growing up in Australia, so these accents are also authentic to her.
Fiona-Jane keeps women’s stories alive through her unique use of drama, poetry and literature in her highly acclaimed solo shows on Women’s History.
She has toured her shows both in the UK and internationally, as well as working in the wider theatre scene. As a theatre actress, two memorable roles she has played include the late Queen Elizabeth II and Dame Angela Lansbury.
As a sideline, Fiona-Jane is also a walking tour guide in London, regaling all manner of stories of that extraordinary city, and of its colourful people. When not acting, narrating or devouring history in Royal Palaces or art galleries, Fiona-Jane enjoys ballet classes, and cooking (though her husband complains she doesn’t do it enough J).
A true Brit, a cup of tea is never far away (she knows all the best places for Afternoon Tea in London!), and if you really want to get on her good side, give her a Gelato – followed by a good cup of tea...
“Fiona-Jane has a way of telling a story that makes you listen intently.”
